Week Eleven; BONE

Bone was an amusing, bluntly and subtlety sarcastic work. Cleverly placed in the world of living bones with such names as Phoney Bone, and Smiley Bone. There is humor and innocent reality in most of the work. Clever plays on situation and characters involved very similar to Space Jams now is them and then was past scene. Clever, mind bending, fun, laughably enjoyable.

Week Eleven; WHY I HATE SATURN This comic is something interesting. While a lot of the comics we’ve read have been very emotion in a deeper way dealing with love and loss, or just down right humorous in other cases, this comic was more just a simple relational piece with a great deal of conversation between the characters. It was pessimistic, EXTREMELY negative, and yet, through these features and use of our langue very very relatable. I think we have all sat in a restaurant and silently, or vocally judged passers by who we feel are superior to us. Very amusing, and real.

WEEK FIVE; Contract With God This collection of stories were interestingly raw. Something about the graphic novels, they never seem to hide any of the earl raw emotion they are feeling. The very first story is about an elderly gentleman who feels God had betrayed him. In a time when life was so hard, what a genuine raw, brutal truth. It’s something that we can relate to even today. When we loose something, a child, we question how it’s possible that God would let such a thing happen. Such a collection of stories, from a drunkard who beats his wife, to people excited to go on vacation after a time of such little extravagance. It is raw, genuine, so truthful that you can’t run from it. It is not something you read to forget about the realities of life, more to find the humor in reality.

Week Fifteen; Calvin and Hobbes This little comic is so captivating. It's funny, innocent, clever, witty, intelligent, fast pace you can look at the strip for sixty seconds, reread the whole strip and leave in a better mood. I especially love how defined the two worlds are between the adults and Calvin. He is obviously a child with child like thought processes and the adults have their reasons as adults usually do, but unlike most depictions of children Calvin is actually very intelligent in an adult manner. The questions he asks, the thoughts he wrestles with, and just the realization and understanding that yes he has these questions but he doesn't always have the mental capacity or life experience to answer those questions. Where that would drive a lot of us crazy he is ok with the little answers he is capable of conjuring and since no one is able to answer him or thinks he's beneath knowing the answers that's where he is content to stay.
