Week Fifteen; Whiteout

This was a fascinating comic. I opened it just to see what it was but as I started reading it I became more and more engrossed. Even about half way through I still wasn't entirely sure what was going on. The author really keeps you lost up until the very end of the story which is really quite an interesting way of telling the narrative. The characters are by no means perfect and even our main character is deeply flawed with her own secrets and her own past. This is refreshing in a world that loves having a highly perfect hero and a devilish villain. What was really interesting about this comic book was how much it reminded me of the classic Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew mystery stories. I think the only difference is how violent and graphic(pun fully intended hehe) the comics were in comparison. It was fun, enthralling, entertaining, engaging, and suspenseful.

WEEK FIVE; Contract With God This collection of stories were interestingly raw. Something about the graphic novels, they never seem to hide any of the earl raw emotion they are feeling. The very first story is about an elderly gentleman who feels God had betrayed him. In a time when life was so hard, what a genuine raw, brutal truth. It’s something that we can relate to even today. When we loose something, a child, we question how it’s possible that God would let such a thing happen. Such a collection of stories, from a drunkard who beats his wife, to people excited to go on vacation after a time of such little extravagance. It is raw, genuine, so truthful that you can’t run from it. It is not something you read to forget about the realities of life, more to find the humor in reality.

Week Eleven; WHY I HATE SATURN

Week Eleven; WHY I HATE SATURN This comic is something interesting. While a lot of the comics we’ve read have been very emotion in a deeper way dealing with love and loss, or just down right humorous in other cases, this comic was more just a simple relational piece with a great deal of conversation between the characters. It was pessimistic, EXTREMELY negative, and yet, through these features and use of our langue very very relatable. I think we have all sat in a restaurant and silently, or vocally judged passers by who we feel are superior to us. Very amusing, and real.

Week Fifteen; Superman Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow? Reading this comic was entertaining is so many ways. Superman is the stereotypical perfect ideal hero. He can only be harmed by a select few elements that don't really exist on earth making him near immortal, he is the perfect moral human, doesn't kill, tries to be all that's good in the world in one individual. Honestly this makes him almost agitating as a personality. Get the stick out of your butt for heavens sake!!! He is a very unrelatable character, and in today's age he is almost undesirable because very few people want to be that perfect. I think though that he remains an icon because if you don't want to be Superman as a whole then you can definitely take him as a grain of salt. You want to be honest, he's got you.
